Eastern red cedar is similar in appearance to Rocky Mountain juniper, but has a rusty winter color. The species is very hardy and is considered by many resource professionals to be the most important conifer in wildlife plantings in the Northern Plains. This year’s crop was grown from seed collected in north central North Dakota. Mature height is approximately 25 feet. Plant 8 to 12 feet apart in a windbreak. ~ Towner State Nursery
